To the Editor: Although it is well known that various birdscarry cryptococci, the degree of human exposure to birds thatis required for the emergence of clinical cryptococcal diseaseis not known. Two patients with cryptococcal meningitis hadunusually intense exposures. The patients were seropositivefor the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) but had been asymptomaticuntil meningitis developed.
