To the Editor: In discussing screening and informed consent (Feb. 11 issue),¹ Dr. Lee failed to mention the development of more sensitive screening techniques capable of achieving reductions in mortality not seen in clinical trials of 10 to 30 years ago. The consensus is that mammographic screening for breast cancer can now reduce mortality by as much as 30 percent.

Physicians have turned to major health organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute for guidelines regarding the early detection of cancer.
