Presentation of Case

A 31-month-old girl was admitted to the hospital because of fever and diarrhea.

Her early growth and development had been normal, except that her weight was consistently at or just below the 5th percentile. She had been well until two months before entry, when she was admitted to another hospital because of cough, wheezing, and a low-grade fever and was treated with antibiotics and a five-day course of prednisone. She was discharged taking amoxicillin and nebulized albuterol.
