Pulmonary-function tests provide objective, quantifiable measuresof lung function. They are used to evaluate and monitor diseasesthat affect heart and lung function, to monitor the effectsof environmental, occupational, and drug exposures, to assessrisks of surgery, and to assist in evaluations performed beforeemployment or for insurance purposes.
