The Oxford Textbook of Rheumatology is a two-volume work of 1142 pages. The editors state that their goal was to incorporate into a new textbook the exciting advances in the molecular biology of the rheumatic diseases. The book is "designed to be comprehensive and sufficient for both the trainee and the general physician who require up-to-date information." The chapters in the first volume view the rheumatic diseases from the perspectives of common clinical problems, various age groups, and the major organ systems. Chapters on pathophysiology and on inflammation and its treatment follow, and the volume concludes with a large section
