The goal of this book, as aptly stated in the preface, is "tointroduce biochemistry, biology, and pathology of the extracellularmatrix to all those who do not have close contact with thisexciting and rapidly developing field." The book is reasonablysuccessful in accomplishing its rather ambitious aim. It isimportant to note that the term "connective tissue diseases"in the title is meant to be interpreted literally; this bookis not concerned with the collagen vascular diseases, such aslupus erythematosus, which are unfortunately also known as connective-tissuediseases.
