To the Editor: Crusted (Norwegian) scabies is caused by an infestationwith Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis in which the mite populationis enormous and may number in the millions. Crusted scabiesis more difficult to treat than ordinary scabies and may requirerepeated treatments with scabicides and sometimes the sequentialuse of several agents. Recommended treatments for scabies includebenzyl benzoate, sulfiram, malathion, lindane, and permethrin.
