To the Editor: Vigneri et al. (Oct. 26 issue)1 compared five maintenance therapies for reflux esophagitis but did not comment on their costs. In addition, there is no mention of the way compliance was measured in any of the groups. In the discussion, the authors note that ranitidine plus cisapride might be an alternative to omeprazole but for the issue of compliance (because of the number of pills that must be taken each day). Could the authors address this issue within the context of their own study? Is it possible that some of the differences may relate to better compliance . . . [Full Text of this Article]
