Surgical correction of lesions of the extracranial arterial circulation, after evolving over a period of four decades, has been refined until it is now a safe and effective approach for the prevention of stroke. Although controversial for several years, carotid endarterectomy has been shown in recent prospective randomized studies to prevent strokes. It is therefore appropriate and timely to publish a book devoted to the surgical prevention of stroke. This single-author textbook contains much wisdom supported by facts.
