Presentation of Case

A 39-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a gastric mass and pernicious anemia.

She had had sporadic abdominal pain and chronic anxiety for many years. Two years before admission, the results of an upper gastrointestinal series were reported to be normal. The patient subsequently began to have more frequent episodes of pain, which were confined to the right upper quadrant. Ranitidine was added to her base-line medications of clonazepam and trazodone, without improvement.
