By far the most important disease of the breast is cancer, and because the greatest opportunity for reducing mortality from this disease is through mammography, it is quite fitting that the emphasis of Diagnosis of Diseases of the Breast is on the technical and interpretive aspects of mammography. Other imaging and diagnostic methods are covered in appropriate detail. The goal of the editors, as they state in the preface, was to provide "a comprehensive work for all health care professionals who deal with breast disease and, in particular, breast imaging." They have accomplished this goal very well.
