To the Editor: The study by Hooton et al. (Aug. 15 issue)1 of risk factors for urinary tract infections in young women was very interesting and informative, but what about the contraceptive methods they used? I was surprised not to see any mention of condoms. With the current concern about AIDS and the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus, I would expect some of these young women to have used condoms as an adjunct to safe-sex practices.
