Flexibility is essential. Once, I believed that only the physicians treating patients should define and take charge of their care. Managed care has successfully challenged this philosophy by showing that patients (and doctors) are more similar than they are different. Also, I have learned that an obsessive concentration on the doctorpatient relationship distracts me from attending to the needs
