To the Editor: The patient I described in an Image in Clinical Medicine (July 10 issue)¹ was described by others at this institution in the July issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.² The duplication was inadvertent on my part and theirs. The duplication occurred as follows: In September 1996, I submitted my article for publication without knowledge of anyone else's efforts to publish. Four physicians who had participated in different aspects of the patient's care prepared a different article about the same patient, which they submitted for publication on October 25, 1996.
