To the Editor: In a letter (June 5 issue)1 about our article on the outcomes of medical-malpractice litigation,2 Dr. Anderson of the Doctors' Company raised a question about the reliability of judgments concerning the occurrence of adverse events or negligence or both based on review of medical records. In my response3 I misinterpreted his concern about the reliability of the occurrence of adverse events to be concern about the classification of adverse events. In our studies of medical entries, we classify adverse events according to the type of adverse event, the disability suffered by the patient, and the physician involved . . .
