To the Editor: In their report on the relation between dietary fat intake and coronary heart disease in women, Hu et al. (Nov. 20 issue)1 present data suggesting that there is no relation between fat intake and body-mass index. Specifically, in Table 2 of the article, describing base-line characteristics and risk factors according to four fat categories (saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and trans unsaturated), each showing the lowest, intermediate, and highest quintiles of intake, the body-mass index is 24 in all 12 cells. Furthermore, the percentage of subjects reporting vigorous exercise in all four fat categories is uniformly lowest among women . . . [Full Text of this Article]
