DNA sequences of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) have been detectedin all forms of Kaposi's sarcoma.1,2,3 HHV-8 has also been detectedin primary effusion lymphomas,4 Castleman's disease,5 and multiplemyeloma6 and reported anecdotally in cases of angioimmunoblasticlymphadenopathy and germinal-center hyperplasia.7 Indirect immunofluorescenceand immunoblot assays, based on antigens from a latently infectedlymphoma cell line, have shown that HHV-8 is not a ubiquitousviral infection in humans.
