Examination revealed an enlarged, soft liver extending 20 cm below the costal margin in the right midclavicular line, with a width of 25 cm. There was no nodularity, tenderness, or bruit and no clinical or laboratory evidence of hepatic dysfunction. An abdominal computed tomographic (CT) scan with intravenous contrast medium (Panel A) disclosed two low-density space-occupying lesions (arrows), with patchy areas of enhancement peripherally.
