Presentation of Case

A 21-week-old girl was admitted to the hospital because of fever.

The infant had been born by normal spontaneous vaginal delivery to a 37-year-old nulliparous woman after a full-term, uncomplicated pregnancy. The mother had endometritis after delivery. The infant's birth weight was 2840 g. All immunizations were up to date, and growth and development were normal.

The infant was well until two weeks before admission (four weeks after having started to attend a day-care program), when fever developed.
