To the Editor: We would like to comment on the design and interpretation of the recent study by the Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation (HOPE) investigators on vitamin E supplementation and cardiovascular events (Jan. 20 issue).1 Although this study was undertaken in many geographic areas (the United States, Canada, western Europe, and South America) with different dietary intakes, dietary data (especially on antioxidants) were not reported.
