To the Editor: The February 24 issue of the Journal includes three reports and an editorial on physician-assisted suicide.1,2,3,4 Ganzini et al.1 and Sullivan et al.2 describe the experience with physician-assisted suicide in Oregon in 1998 and 1999; neither group reports any complications or problems. In contrast, Groenewoud et al.3 report that there were problems in approximately 30 percent of cases of physician-assisted suicide in the Netherlands. In his editorial, Dr. Nuland4 concludes, "The Dutch findings seem more credible." He expresses the hope that physicians in Oregon will develop "a greater willingness to report untoward events."
