Each week more than 60 manuscripts arrive at our editorial offices for consideration for publication in the Journal. Our job is to determine which of them are most likely to influence clinical practice or biomedical research. It is a challenging task. Here is how we do it.

When a manuscript arrives, a staff member checks to make sure that all materials required for submission are included (see "Information for Authors," which is posted on our Web site and appears in most issues of the Journal ).
