The article by Goldberg et al. in this issue of the Journal reviews the evidence supporting the use of misoprostol in women at various stages of pregnancy.1 The authors identified more than 200 studies involving more than 16,000 women who received misoprostol and conclude that "misoprostol is one of the most important medications in obstetrical practice."1 The product-information enclosure approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that misoprostol is indicated for the prevention of gastric ulcers caused by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs in patients who are at high risk for these ulcers.2 The contraindications include pregnancy, because of misoprostol's . . .
