Antiphospholipid antibodies are a family of autoantibodies thatexhibit a broad range of target specificities and affinities,all recognizing various combinations of phospholipids, phospholipid-bindingproteins, or both. The term "antiphospholipid syndrome" wasfirst coined to denote the clinical association between antiphospholipidantibodies and a syndrome of hypercoagulability.1,2 Revisionof the criteria for diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndromeand the terminology used to describe the disease is an ongoingprocess3 (Table 1).
