Presentation of Case

A 54-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of occlusion of the central retinal vein in her left eye, followed by occlusion of the central retinal vein in her right eye.

The patient had been well until about two years earlier, when she was found to have anemia; no further evaluation was undertaken. One year before admission, fatigue developed, with weakness that progressively worsened to the extent that she could barely walk. During that year, epistaxis occurred with increasing frequency, and she took aspirin for occasional headaches.
