To the Editor: In their discussion, Schilling et al. (April 4 issue),1 noting that screening for neuroblastoma at six months of age in Japan was reported to result in high survival rates among patients whose disease was detected by screening, as well as in reduced mortality as compared with that in a historical control group, expressed the concern that the ascertainment of cases among the screened cohorts in Japan was not complete. We have addressed this question and found no differences in the cumulative incidence of advanced-stage neuroblastoma and the cumulative mortality rates for neuroblastoma between screened and unscreened children . . .
