To the Editor: In her editorial on the article by Galil et al. (Dec. 12 issue),1 Gershon2 states that the time to explore the routine administration of a second dose of the varicella vaccine has arrived. I agree, but Gershon fails to mention the issue that will truly tip the balance in favor of recommending the second dose of this vaccine. The possibility of secondary vaccine failure due to the waning of immunity will soon be a valid concern in young women of childbearing age who received one dose before the age of 12 years.
