Angiotensin-converting–enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are effective in reducing mortality and morbidity from cardiovascular events among patients who have chronic heart failure due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction and in those who have acute myocardial infarction with or without left ventricular systolic dysfunction. ACE inhibitors are also effective in reducing mortality and morbidity from cardiovascular events in high-risk patients with diabetes mellitus as well as those with renal dysfunction.
