Presentation of Case

A 73-year-old man was admitted to the hospital in June because of fever, weakness, and pain in the muscles of his legs.

He had been well until seven days before admission, when a dry cough and rhinorrhea developed and lasted for two days. Six days before admission, he had traveled from Boston to coastal South Carolina to attend a conference.
