To the Editor: The Clinical Practice article by Grady (Nov. 30 issue)1 on the management of menopausal symptoms does not mention "bioidentical" hormone replacement — a confusing marketing term used to refer to a number of pharmacologic hormone-replacement therapies made by pharmacy compounding. Bioidentical hormone replacement is purported by the pharmacies to replace the hormones lost after menopause and is widely implied to be safer and more effective than conventional therapy.

Patients are frequently evaluated for therapy by a community pharmacist after they have attended a community seminar sponsored by that pharmacist. The pharmacist receives additional training in hormone therapy . . . [Full Text of this Article]
