A single course of prenatal corticosteroid therapy has beenshown to accelerate fetal lung maturation when premature deliveryis imminent.1,2,3 This therapy reduces morbidity and mortalityin premature newborns by reducing the incidence of respiratorydisease and dependence on mechanical respiratory support. Longer-termfollow-up has revealed no adverse effects on neurodevelopmentaloutcomes or growth, and this treatment is routinely recommendedfor women at risk for premature delivery between 24 weeks and33 weeks of gestation.2,3
