To the Editor: Keime-Guibert et al. (April 12 issue)1 report a median survival benefit of 12.2 weeks with radiotherapy plus supportive care as compared with supportive care alone for glioblastoma in the elderly. Although this represents an impressive relative survival benefit of approximately 70%, the absolute survival benefit should be placed in context. The median treatment duration was 5.9 weeks. In other words, 48% of the duration of the absolute survival benefit was spent receiving the treatment. The fact that the survival benefit gained is measured in fractions of weeks, not months or years, highlights the limitations of this treatment.
