To the Editor: On the basis of the report by Boden et al. on the Clinical Outcomes Utilizing Revascularization and Aggressive Drug Evaluation (COURAGE) trial (April 12 issue),1 we updated our meta-analysis of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus medical treatment in nonacute coronary artery disease.2 The calculations reinforce the absence of a difference between PCI and medical therapy in patients with stable coronary artery disease, with 95% confidence intervals excluding a 12% reduction in the relative risk of death from cardiac causes or myocardial infarction with PCI (Table 1).
