Figure 1. Serum Concentrations of Testosterone, Androstenedione, Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEAS), and Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) before and after the Administration of Dexamethasone for Five Days in Women with Non-Neoplastic Hirsutism and Women with Adrenal Tumors.
The upside-down triangles indicate women with non-neoplastic hirsutism, circles women with virilizing adrenal carcinomas without Cushing's syndrome, squares women with virilizing adrenal carcinomas with Cushing's syndrome, and triangles women with virilizing adrenal adenomas. In the patients with tumors, some values obtained after the dexamethasone test are missing, as shown in Table 2. The dashed lines and dotted lines indicate the upper limits of the ranges in normal women at base line and after dexamethasone administration, respectively. Pre denotes before, and post after. To convert values for testosterone to nanomoles per liter, multiply by 0.0347; to convert values for androstenedione to nanomoles per liter, multiply by 0.0349; to convert values for DHEAS to micromoles per liter, multiply by 0.0271; and to convert values for DHEA to nanomoles per liter, multiply by 34.7.
