To the Editor: The patient I described in an Image in ClinicalMedicine (July 10 issue)1 was described by others at this institutionin the July issue of the American Journal of Respiratory andCritical Care Medicine.2 The duplication was inadvertent onmy part and theirs. The duplication occurred as follows: InSeptember 1996, I submitted my article for publication withoutknowledge of anyone else's efforts to publish. Four physicianswho had participated in different aspects of the patient's careprepared a different article about the same patient, which theysubmitted for publication on October 25, 1996. My article wasaccepted on November 7, 1996, and theirs on February 12, 1997.The redundancy came to my attention only after the publicationof their article.
I also wish to correct several errors in my report in the Journal. The patient was 26 years old, not 30; she had been submergedin a riverbed, not a lake; and she was discharged after threeweeks, not after a few days. I regret the duplication and theerrors.
