Ninety-one subjects had progression to the single end point, microalbuminuria. In three additional subjects (who were receiving verapamil), microalbuminuria had developed at the time of their withdrawal from the study (one who withdrew consent and two others who withdrew because of adverse events). At the time of closure of the study, microalbuminuria had also developed in three subjects who were receiving trandolapril, one who was receiving verapamil, one who was receiving verapamil plus trandolapril, and two who were receiving placebo.
