A 57-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of reddish-purple lesions on the right lower extremity.
The patient had been well until the age of 38 years, when he felt a mass in the right inguinal region. Two years later the mass increased slightly in size, and warmth and erythema developed about it, with a rise in the temperature to 39.9 °C. The patient was admitted to the hospital, where physical examination showed a mass, 12.7 by 10 cm, in the right inguinal region. Cephalexin was administered by vein, with prompt resolution of the fever, local swelling, and erythema.
