October 1 of this year marks the retirement from the Journal of its two longest-serving associate editors, Dr. Jane F. Desforges and Dr. Ronald A. Malt. Dr. Desforges came to the Journal in 1961. Since that time, she has worked with four editors and been joined by five more associate editors, the first of these being Dr. Malt in 1965. In the following editorial, she gives us a glimpse of the four editors, the evolution of the Journal over 30 years, and the great changes in medical research.
