Presentation of Case

A 62-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of nausea, vomiting, and jaundice two weeks after an aortic valvuloplasty.

The patient had had a heart murmur "since birth," for which she was followed annually, and had remained free of symptoms.

Eleven months before entry, evaluation revealed splenomegaly. Laboratory tests were performed (Table 1). Three months before admission laboratory tests were performed (Table 1 and Table 2).
