First, the authors state, "Abusers of benzodiazepines are very uncommon." As a psychiatrist who has worked in a variety of outpatient settings, I disagree. Every week I see patients taking benzodiazepines who are also taking addictive analgesic drugs or abusing alcohol, usually without the knowledge of their family physician or psychiatrist.
