To the Editor: Dr. Todd (Dec. 2 issue)1 attempts to convince us that valid reform of our health care system can occur only if "something" is done about the "malpractice `mess."' He proceeds to detail how the "current atmosphere" perniciously affects the physician, but offers little insight into the multifaceted cause of this situation. It has become politically correct to direct attention away from the issue of negligent professional behavior and to blame the litigious fervor among the citizenry, fueled by the failure of the plaintiff's bar to practice social responsibility, for creating this perceived climate of risk for doctors.
