To the Editor: The article on Hubert Humphrey's bladder tumor (May 5 issue),1 although intended to demonstrate advances in diagnostic techniques, could just as easily be interpreted to show the limited importance of such techniques in this one case. The initial diagnosis of cancer was fully substantiated by the diagnosis of carcinoma in situ in 1969. It is extremely unlikely and has not been proved that the delay between 1967 and 1969 would have made any clinical difference, particularly given that no treatment was provided even when a definitive diagnosis was rendered.
