No book has dealt comprehensively with the parathyroid glands since the 1948 classic by Fuller Albright and Edward C. Reifenstein, Jr., The Parathyroid Glands and Metabolic Bone Disease: Selected Studies (Baltimore: Williams & Wilkins). In the past 20 years there has been an explosion of knowledge about the parathyroid glands, their secretory products, the effects of parathyroid disease, and the effects of other diseases on these glands. The Parathyroids is a timely and worthy successor to Albright and Reifenstein's classic.
