A 50-year-old asymptomatic woman who was apparently healthy was found during a routine medical checkup to have a serum creatinine concentration of 1.8 mg per deciliter (160 µmol per liter) and a serum urea nitrogen concentration of 35 mg per deciliter (12.4 mmol per liter).
