To the Editor: On the basis of a prospective study, Fuchs and colleagues (Dec. 22 issue)¹ estimate that the relative risk of colorectal cancer is 5.37 for people younger than 45 years of age who have one or more affected first-degree relatives. In an attempt to identify families with colon cancer, we have obtained detailed information on family history from 17 unselected patients with very-early-onset colon cancer (onset at the age of 39 or younger) through the records of the tumor registry of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.
