To the Editor: Naber's excellent article about the detection of neoplasia (Dec. 1 issue)¹ focuses on the molecular analysis of rearranged antigen-receptor genes as a clonal marker in lymphoid neoplasia by Southern blot analysis or polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Since the majority of lymphoid tumors are of monoclonal origin, the assessment of lymphoid clonality seems to be a promising way to discriminate between reactive inflammatory processes and malignant lymphoma.

We agree with Naber that the results of DNA analysis need to be interpreted in the context of relevant clinical, morphologic, and immunologic data, because the detection of clonality by rearranged . . . [Full Text of this Article]
