Swales's book on hypertension does well in fulfilling his ambitious aim of creating "a comprehensive critical text covering the complete spectrum of knowledge from mechanisms to management." Dr. Swales had an advisory board of 10 eminent researchers in the field, who together with him obtained contributions from over 175 authors. The book is more concise than other recent textbooks on the same topic, without sacrificing breadth certainly a boon in an era of information overload.
