A 29-month-old girl was readmitted to the hospital because of increasing ataxia and abnormal eye movements.
The child had been born after a 30-week gestation, with a birth weight of 1.35 kg. The mother was reported to have abused alcohol and other drugs, especially medications for pain, throughout gestation. The girl was transferred to this hospital, intubated for approximately 1 week, and discharged at 31/ 2 months.
