Presentation of Case

A 21-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of thoracolumbar pain.

The patient had been well until 17 weeks earlier, when she began to have pain in the midline thoracolumbar region of the spine, with radiation to the right flank, accompanied by nocturnal fever. The pain was aggravated by coughing, sneezing, straining, and recumbency and was not relieved by acetaminophen.
