The authors imply that only negative effects of unintended intraoperative hypothermia have been observed to date. In previous studies in animals, the same group showed that mild hypothermia significantly impairs resistance to dermal infection.2,3 With the exception of its effects in cardiac surgery and neurosurgery, we, too, know of no positive effects of intraoperative hypothermia on postoperative outcome.
